CERTAIN
Where?
It is a fish that lives in wider stretches of the rivers of the bream country, where we usually meet it in certain places. He likes hard bottoms, sandy and gravely, and even rocky. For this reason, it goes quite high into the land of barbel. We will find it in the mainstream, at the current limit, in places where the current weakens, that is, in a bend or behind obstacles, e.g.. larger boulders and stone blocks. It is also found in dam reservoirs, especially in the area of their backwater. It can also be found in some lakes - there, where the river flows. If such a river is blocked by a dam, through which certificates cannot pass, these fish form a local population in the lake, spawning in one of the tributaries. In recent years, vimba has been disappearing in some waters, which is most often associated with increasing environmental pollution. He lives at the bottom.
When?
We catch it all year round, just like roach or mumps. Takes well during the January thaw. In the summer months, when the water visibly warms up, we can meet her in the shallow water, rapidly flowing stretches.
Equipment.
The float should be very sensitive, delicate and carefully balanced, line 0.15-0.20 mm, hooks sizes 4-9. Flies - nymphs.
Fishing methods.
We catch it like a pig: on a flow with a float, which must be so balanced, to 4/5 its length was under the water. Also for an appetizer with and without a float; the bait always at the bottom.
Lures.
The use is similar to that of catching pigs and roaches. The larvae of water insects, volunteers, slurries, white worms”, cake, flour products, groats, to be, steamed bun, mash and others. In warm periods, we give plant baits, and in cooler ones - animal ones, especially insect larvae, slurries and bloodworms. Due to this, that the vimba has a relatively small mouth, and it takes food from the bottom, we put small portions of the bait on the hook.
Other comments.
In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, certa is a common fish, she is very shy, cautious and distrustful. While fishing, it should be lured and excited. In fact, it rarely exceeds length 35 cm and weight 0,5 kg. Its meat is very tasty, though bristly. We must be careful when towing and releasing undersized individuals, because the vimba when torn or thrown into the water can scare the whole herd, and then we will have to waste a lot of time, to wait, until the fish calm down and start biting again.
In Poland, the vimba is a migratory fish, as it enters rivers from the Baltic Sea to spawn, after which he returns to the sea again. The certificate population decreased significantly as a result of river pollution. It is a fish covered by many conservation laws: its protective dimension is 30 cm, and the protection period is varied, because in Odra and Vistula it lasts from 15 April to 31 May, and in other rivers and reservoirs from 2 May to 30 June. Also its catch is limited: An angler may catch no more than 5 pcs, behind the wall, barbel, carp and tench.
