Fishing calendar - week 51.
The pre-Christmas period on the shores is almost completely calm. Only the most persistent anglers come to the water, most often for this, “To have fun”. There are also anglers, who want to end the calendar year and fishing season with some greater success and catch their own Christmas pike. There are also such, who treat a trip to the water as a trip and come there without a fishing rod. Regarding the use of fishing methods or baits, all the rules for the winter fishing season apply.
This week is full of shopping and shopping for Christmas gifts and fish. When shopping and bringing home fish for the holidays, let's not forget about the rules for handling fish. So when buying, we ask the seller to kill the fish immediately, thus, we will not only save fish from troublesome transport and torment, but also valuable tap water, which is indispensable for keeping live fish in an apartment. You should visualize yourself, that the fish is also a living creature, feels pain, and its natural habitat is water, to which her body is adapted. So we will never take a fish by the gills or stuff our fingers into its eyes. Please take it carefully, but hold it firmly with both hands (one for the tail, the other under the head). In small outlets, live fish should be killed before being sold.
If the buyer prefers to have the fish alive, he should bring with him a suitable water tank or a sufficiently moist packaging. Fish killed 2-3 days before Christmas Eve (the day of preparation) it should be cleaned immediately, gutted, devoid of gills and wiped only with a cloth or newsprint; in no case can it be washed with water, even from the traces of blood. Niesolona fish, slit lengthwise, put in a plastic bag and placed in a refrigerator or freezer will always be better than freshly killed just before processing. Individual portions (fillets) we wash just before cooking. All details of storing and freezing fish can be found in professional literature.
